How to check if Windows 10 is activated or genuine?
Using the Settings app
If you are a Windows 10 user then you can very easily and quickly check whether your Windows 10 is genuine or not by using the Settings app.
Press the Start button, type Settings and open the app. Now go to Update & Security.
On the left sidebar select the Activation tab and now on the right-hand side, you will see the message whether you have activated Windows 10.
In my case, Windows 10 is activated with a digital license. You can activate Windows 10 using a product key. If you want to learn more about the activation methods and different types of licenses visit Windows 10 activation.
Simply by opening the Settings app
Open the Settings app and if you see the text “Windows isn’t activated. Activate Windows now” at the bottom of the window then it means your Windows 10 isn’t activated. It is the fastest way of checking if your Windows 10 is activated or not.
How to check if Windows 10 is genuine or corrupted
Normally you will only check if the Windows is activated or not (by right-clicking on This PC and Properties) but you might not know that the Windows which is installed on your computer might also be corrupted one or a cracked version.
The worst part is that even if you are using the cracked version the status looks the same.
So press the Start + R to open the Run dialog and then type slmgr.vbs /dli and hit enter. slmgr stands for Software License Manager and the .vbs means Visual Basic Script.
If in the new pop-up window you see License status: Licensed then it means your Windows 10 is activated.
Using Control Panel
This method is applicable to all the Windows versions such as Windows 10, 8/8.1, 7.
Press the Start button and type Control panel.
Under System and Security tap on System button (in green text).
Here you can see whether your Windows is activated or not. For me, it is activated.
Using Command Prompt
Again this method is applicable for Windows 10, 8/8.1, 7.
Press Start + R and type cmd and press enter. Now type the command slmgr /xpr and hit enter.
Now you will see a message something like “The machine is permanently activated“.
If you want to learn more about the slmgr command-line tool and how it works, type this command without any parameters in command prompt.
How to check if Windows 8 / 8.1 is activated or not?

- Now select the Windows Activation and if you see Windows is activated message then it means you have a genuine version of Windows.
How to check if Windows 7 is activated?
- Click on the Start menu and select Control Panel.
- Now click on System and Security and then click on System.
- Now scroll down till you see Windows is activated and on the right side you should see a genuine Microsoft logo.
Difference between a genuine and pirated version of Windows?
One of the most common experiences you will have when you install a cracked version of Windows is your pc will start getting slow and start lagging. You will notice these changes after a few weeks.
And another most important thing is you won’t be able to download the latest updates from Microsoft.
Most of the time the cracked version comes with malware, keylogger or a harmful virus ready to steal your data. These viruses are hidden in such a way that you won’t be able to locate them.
So I hope you learned how to check if your Windows 10, 8/8.1, 7 is genuine. Do comment below if you know some other method.
